International Sustainability Manager

Executive Certification in Strategic Sustainability Leadership

The International Sustainability Manager (ISM) certification confirms that its holder possesses advanced expertise, long-term professional experience and leadership competence required to strategically manage sustainability and ESG integration within national and international organizations.

In today’s regulatory, financial and societal environment, sustainability is no longer a compliance function. It is a strategic management discipline directly linked to risk mitigation, long-term value creation and institutional resilience.

An International Sustainability Manager is responsible for integrating environmental, social and governance principles into organizational strategy, operations and decision-making processes.

Strategic Leadership and Accountability

The certification is awarded to professionals who demonstrate:

  • a minimum of 10 years of project management experience in sustainability-related fields,
  • the ability to integrate environmental, social and governance dimensions into business strategy,
  • experience leading interdisciplinary teams,
  • international project exposure and strategic decision-making capacity.

Eligibility requires holding at least one individual LIBRE certification or providing documented evidence of equivalent professional maturity.

System-Level Responsibility

An International Sustainability Manager:

  • designs and oversees sustainability management systems,
  • coordinates audits, implementation projects and certification processes,
  • integrates technical, operational and strategic dimensions,
  • supports organizations in meeting ESG reporting and regulatory requirements,
  • builds internal governance frameworks aligned with long-term resilience.

This is not an operational role.
It is a strategic leadership function.

International Recognition

The certification has international status and is publicly verifiable on LIBREFoundation.org. Each certificate carries a unique identification number.

Only foreign languages are specified in the ISM certificate, confirmed at minimum C2 proficiency level, ensuring the capability to operate in executive and international environments.

Cooperation with LIBRE Foundation

Certified Managers may represent LIBRE Foundation in sustainability projects and certification processes upon signing a formal cooperation agreement.

The certification forms part of a structured quality and governance system designed to protect institutional credibility and ensure high professional standards.

Continuous Professional Development

The certification is renewed annually. Maintaining validity requires:

  • ongoing professional development,
  • active project implementation,
  • compliance with national and international regulations,
  • adherence to professional integrity and leadership standards.

In cases of misconduct or violation of ethical principles, certification may be suspended or revoked.

Market Relevance

The International Sustainability Manager plays a critical role in:

  • ESG reporting and regulatory compliance,
  • climate risk and operational risk management,
  • sustainable finance access,
  • institutional transformation and long-term value creation.

This certification confirms not only expertise, but executive-level responsibility for shaping sustainable strategy and governance.
